YOUR ROLE

My usual responsibilities cover office based engineering and design work (including naval architecture, structural analysis, lifting, etc.). However I also regularly work on site in both supervisory and 3rd party approval roles.

When I’m not being an engineer I’m involved in operations planning, QA/HSE type tasks and general research and development for the group. I also work as a Team Lead, responsible for the training and management of a small team of engineers and draughtsmen.

WHY  DO  YOU  LIKE  WORKING  AT  MALIN  GROUP?

Although we’re getting bigger, Malin is still a relatively small group. This means we all know each other and work well as a team. It also means that the opportunities are there for anyone that wants them to be involved in a wide range of tasks and projects.

No day is ever the same here!

UNIQUE FACT

Since graduating from Strathclyde in 2010 my career has seen me living in 6 different countries and working in over 20 (at last count). I just need a project in Antarctica to come up, and possibly a very big coat!

Responsible for project management and structural engineering input over a wide range of Malin Group projects.

16 years structural experience in the process plant and heavy fabrication industry, before joining Henry Abram & Sons in 1989, as Design Engineer and Marine Superintendent.

As a naval architect/design engineer you’ll undertake a range of engineering tasks as part of our retrofit engineering design packages – ranging from structural design to pipework routing and layouts. Your attention to detail will ensure our retrofit projects are completed efficiently – helping guarantee our clients comply in as cost effective a manner as possible. Consistent dedication to our mission is paramount.

Through your commitment to engineering efficiency, you will work with our management team to put in place procedures and methodologies to enable the engineering team to turn around retrofit projects efficiently, and effectively.
As part of the engineering team, you will become an expert in 3D laser scanning, and undertake 3D laser scanning projects onboard marine vessels worldwide. The role will involve global travel, and will require an adaptable personality to engage with a variety of different vessel crews and officers.

In line with the ethos of the company, you will become an expert on the legislation and the compliance solutions available to our clients. You will work closely with the management team to build a library of innovative solutions and a thorough understanding of the technical benefits and drawbacks of each compliance solution available.

Job Requirements:
 University engineering degree of BEng or higher
 Minimum 2-3 years relevant industry experience
 Completion of 3 Naval Architecture/Engineering Projects as engineer
 A true passion for engineering
 Availability to travel worldwide
